PROC MIXED: Underlying Ideas with Examples

چکیده
ABSTRACT The SAS ® procedure MIXED provides a single tool for analyzing a large array of models used in statistics, especially experimental design, through the use of REML estimation. A strategy for identifying mixed models is followed by a description of REML estimation along with a simple example that illustrates its advantages. A comparison of some of the available tests for variance components is given along with several examples, both real and artificial, that illustrate the variety of models handled by PROC MIXED.

Got Randomness? SAS® for Mixed and Generalized Linear Mixed Models
SAS® PROC GLIMMIX fits generalized linear mixed models for nonnormal data with random effects, thus combining features of both PROC GENMOD and PROC MIXED. I will review the ideas behind PROC GLIMMIX and offer examples of Poisson and binary data. PROC NLMIXED also has the capacity to fit these kinds of models. After a brief introduction to that procedure, I will show an example of a zero-inflate...
متن کاملA Multilevel Model Primer Using SAS PROC MIXED
This paper provides an introduction to specifying multilevel models using PROC MIXED. After a brief introduction to the field of multilevel modeling, users are provided with concrete examples of how PROC MIXED can be used to estimate (a) two-level organizational models, (b) two-level growth models, and (c) three-level organizational models. Both random intercept and random intercept and slope m...
متن کاملMeta-Analysis Using SAS PROC MIXED 1 META-ANALYSIS USING LINEAR MIXED MODELS
Psychologists often use special computer programs to perform meta-analysis. Until recently, this had been necessary because standard statistical packages did not provide procedures for such analysis. This paper introduces linear mixed models as a framework for meta-analysis in psychological research, using a popular general-purpose statistical package, SAS. The approach is illustrated with thre...
متن کاملLinear Mixed Models in Clinical Trials using PROC MIXED
This paper mainly illustrates how to use PROC MIXED to fit linear mixed models in clinical trials. We first introduce the statistical background of linear mixed models. We explore the situations under which the mixed effects are identified. A randomized complete block design is used to explain the difference between PROC GLM and PROC MIXED in dealing with the linear mixed models. Examples inclu...
متن کاملUsing PROC MIXED in Hierarchical Linear Models: Examples from two- and three-level school-effect analysis, and meta-analysis research
The study presents useful examples of fitting hierarchical linear models using the PROC MIXED statistical procedure in the SAS system. Hierarchical linear models are quite common in social science studies, in particular educational research, due to naturally occurring hierarchies or clusters (e.g., students belong to classes which are nested in schools). Despite their prevalence, the SAS PROC M...
